Chapter meetings are the formal settings where collective juices flow.
Forming a new chapter
The formation of a new chapter is a significant undertaking for any community. The Society lives and thrives through growth and wishes to ensure that every chapter receives adequate support and direction throughout its formative and growth stages.
Although every chapter has the Society’s full resources available to it and is encouraged to ask for assistance and direction, each chapter is independent in its ability to truly help the local inventor community. There are three keys to successfully chartering a new chapter:
1.Board selection – While it takes personal commitment, empathy, and a certain level of individual drive to be a successful inventor; success as a chapter board member requires more. Board members must be leaders, they must be able to direct the flow of the meeting, and facilitate/moderate chapter discussions.
2.Generate interest – Advertising, promotion, and networking are essential keys to developing an energized base of chapter members. It is crucial that the word get out about the Society’s new presence in any new area.
3.Follow the manual – The Society acknowledges that its members and officers are creative, inventive, and generally independent minded. Interestingly, it is those qualities that have brought us together in the first place. But, they can also be the downfall of a chapter. Follow the basic instructions and formats provided in this manual and the chapter will succeed. Please don’t try to reinvent the wheel, but rather, apply those creative juices toward helping one another be a success. Please Note: Should you have suggestions of how to better operate and facilitate, please forward them to the Society, so that they may be considered for adoption by the Society and shared across all our chapters.
Chapter meetings
Chapter membership, including chapter officers, will meet on a monthly basis. Participation of all members is essential to the success of each individual member. Attendance is compulsory, in that any member unable to attend at least 9 meetings per year may be invited to resign their membership. Meetings will generally be scheduled to last 90 minutes. Additional meetings or longer meeting schedules may be scheduled to accommodate guest speakers, special workshops, or community outreach events. Participation in these additional meetings is not compulsory but will achieve the greatest level of success with complete chapter participation.
